Introduction: Learn Your Options!
De Anza College uses a placement process that is designed to help students find the right English and Math classes for their level of knowledge and understanding.
For many students, we can find the right course placement by looking at their high school transcripts, if they completed high school in the United States. In some cases, we may also consider other forms of assessment to match students with the best courses to help them succeed.
Before You Begin
Before you begin the placement process, you should apply to De Anza and get your student identification number (known as a Campuswide ID or CWID). You will receive an email containing your CWID a few days after your application is processed.
The following questions will help you understand the placement process and learn your options for meeting English and Math requirements at De Anza.
- You may want to take notes for yourself as you go through this survey, to help you remember the options that are recommended for you.
- You should also plan to talk with your counselor about choosing the right courses to meet your academic goals. If you need help finding a counselor, visit the Our Counselors webpage.
