- Francesca will send out an intern application form on the Discord. Existing interns will also have to fill it out for record-keeping purposes
- Election Code & Posting Guidelines Changes - 2:13 PM
- James has both documents on the agenda
- Dennis will be posting them to the admin channel on the Discord
- First item: posting guidelines (second link sent by Dennis)
- Fran: campaign materials must not be posted on, hang from, or come into contact with trees or plants in any way. -> merge this rule with the rule prohibiting posting on artwork; streamlined rules mean more people will read them well
- Any campaign material in contact with trees will be in violation
- Campaign material may only be posted outside if it is staked down and does not touch any vegetation
- Fran: add fountains, statues, and other important things to the rule
- Dennis: fountains are already pictured in the code, but this will make it more explicit
- This could fall into “do not post on or deface artwork”
- Do not leave anything on the ground
- Preventative measure against candidates potentially leaving flyers on the ground
- Proposal: add this as a sub-point C for rule 5 (no posting in buildings)
- Edits to rule 5:
- MLC allows 1 poster per candidate on the poles inside the lobby and 1 by each of the
entrances -> 5b already lays this out
- Didn’t say anything about poles, but that’s the only place you can do it without obstructing
- Max size = 8.5”*11”
- VPAC allows 1 each per candidate
- Buildings ->
- MLC allows 1 poster per candidate on the poles inside the lobby and 1 by each of the
entrances -> 5b already lays this out
- No need to clarify posting limits in 1 spot; $100 max spending incentivizes against posting significant amounts of material in 1 spot
- No. 3 -> add a rule against posting above seating areas
- E.g. if someone hangs a banner above a bench preventing it from being used, that’d be a no-go
- Do not block any paths added as rule 5 -> everything after moved up
- Includes walking and vehicle paths -> duplicate
- Rename from “posting guidelines” to “campaign material regulations”
- Edit “banners on stakes” to “signs”
- Get rid of coalitions
- Add ballot numbers
- Wrapping up w/ campaign material regulation
- Can’t have friends campaign for you
- Last year, some coalitions had friends break campaign rules for them to skirt around the regulations -> part of coalition ban
- Need strict language to prevent arguments/confusion
- Keep reposting allowed; it’s unenforceable and can be used to take down opponents
- Need to find a consistent structure for that
- Declare a campaign team?
- These guys cannot be candidates themselves, and must be pledged to one person
- Add an explicit rule against posting on the glass
- Coalitions -> gone, kaputt, byebye
- People feel discouraged from running because they think they need a coalition
- Complicates applications and financial reports
- Election code - 2:52
- Election timeline needs changing
- 2:53 PM - Table this item for the next meeting on 11/5
- Introduction of prospective interns - 2:53
- No new prospective interns
- Reminder: Fran posting intern application form -> existing interns still need to fill it out
- Public comments - 2:53
- Suyash: interview openings after meeting
- Use your FHDA email to fill out the intern form -> [your student id]@fhda.edu
- If you don’t have a project in mind and you want to become an intern, Fran has put a section of the elections code as a potential project -> look over it and find flaws
- Meeting adjourned - 2:56
