Help With Yesterday's Tragedy
May 27, 2021
Dear Students,
Yesterday’s mass shooting in San José is a tragedy – and another episode of horrific gun violence, which has plagued our community and nation.
For students who would like support in processing thoughts or feelings about this event, our Psychological Services office is offering an online support group this afternoon – Thursday, May 27 – starting at 3 p.m. You’ll find information on how to participate at deanza.edu/psychologicalservices.
We must not become desensitized to these episodes. Please be kind and considerate to the people around you, including family, classmates and coworkers – at this time and at all times. There are also opportunities to show support for the families of the victims, and for the community.
- San José leaders have called for a vigil outside City Hall, at 200 E. Santa Clara Street, at 6 p.m. tonight.
- The Working Partnerships USA organization is accepting financial donations to assist the victims’ families.
- The Stanford Blood Center is requesting blood donations. Information about donating can be found at stanfordbloodcenter.org.
With appreciation,
Lloyd A. Holmes
