Sad News About Jean Elwell
July 6, 2007
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great sadness that I share with you the passing of Jean Elwell this morning. Jean had been an integral part of the De Anza family since 1982 in the Admissions and Records department. Many of you knew Jean from Admissions and Records where she worked tirelessly in support of faculty and students. Jean was well loved by students, faculty and staff and De Anza was her avocation as well as her job.
Many of us were looking forward to her return after her courageous battle with heart disease over the last several months. In fact, she called this past Tuesday "to make sure summer session got off to a good start." First and foremost, students were her top priority.
We would like to schedule a campus memorial gathering to celebrate Jean's life but will wait to coordinate with her family. Our thoughts go out to Jean's daughters, Susanne and Kathryn Elwell. Susanne also works for the Foothill-De Anza Community College District (since 1989), most currently with the Faculty Association.
Please join me in celebrating her spirit as you think about Jean in the days ahead. Additional information about services will follow.
Sincerely,
Brian Murphy
