Budget Dialogue With Legislators

April 16, 2012 — Message from Your Presidents

Dear Student,

We hope you have had a great beginning to spring quarter, and that you were able to register for the classes you need (you can still add through Saturday with an add code). If not, the reason could be the reduced course offerings that have resulted from state budget cuts over the past several years. These cuts to education have had significant effects on De Anza students and on students statewide.

Educate our area assemblymembers on what these cuts have meant for you during the open comment portion of "Funding Our Future: A Student Budget Dialogue with Legislators," to be held this Thursday, April 19, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in Campus Center Conference Rooms A&B.

Assemblymember Jim Beall (24th District) proposed this event and will be joined by his Assembly colleagues Paul Fong, 22nd District; Rich Gordon, 21st District; Jerry Hill, 19th District; and Bob Wieckowski, 20th District.

De Anza student panelists will be student trustee Emily Kinner, DASB Senator Orit Mohamed and DASB Executive Vice President Shaila Ramos. For a complete list of student panelists from area community colleges, see www.deanza.edu/news/2012fundingourfuture419.html.

De Anza Associated Student Body (DASB) and the De Anza College Institute of Community and Civic Engagement (ICCE) are event partners.

Please attend this important event and organize others to attend as well. You may also want to consider asking your instructor if you may make a quick announcement in class about "Funding Our Future." We hope to see you on Thursday.

Sincerely,

Arvind Ravichandran
President, De Anza Associated Student Body (DASB)

Emily Kinner
Student Trustee, De Anza College

Brian Murphy
President, De Anza College
