Introduction to Linguistics
Course Description
This course provides a broad introduction to the scientific study of language. Students will explore fundamental concepts in linguistics, including phonetics (the sounds of speech), phonology (the patterns and rules of sounds in languages), morphology (word structure), syntax (sentence structure), semantics (meaning), and pragmatics (language in context). The course will also touch on topics such as language variation, language acquisition, and the relationship between language and society.

LING 1.50Z: Fully ONLINE. This is an online class that does not have scheduled meetings. Students can log in anytime to do the required weekly course work. Students must have access to a computer, the internet and an individual email address. We recommend a laptop or desktop computer to successfully complete the course; a tablet or phone may not be adequate for all assignments and tests.
