Basic Student Teaching Practicum
Course Description
The course demonstrates developmentally appropriate early childhood teaching competencies under guided supervision. Students will utilize practical classroom experiences to make connections between theory and practice, develop professional behaviors, and build a comprehensive understanding of children and families. Child-centered, play-oriented approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment; and knowledge of curriculum content areas will be emphasized as student teachers design, implement, and evaluate experiences that promote positive development and learning for all young children. (This course meets the NAEYC Standards 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5; and NBPTS Standards 1 through 9.)

CD-051A.2CZ: This class is restricted to students in the CDE Apprenticeship Grant (CAI Grant). This is an online class with schedule meetings as noted on the class listings. Class Meetings: Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Online) Seminar: Thursday evenings, 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM (Online) Requirements: Completion of Mid-Quarter and Final activities is required. These activities must be conducted in a certified childcare program and not in your work program. Students must have access to a computer, the internet and an individual email address. Most De Anza classes will use the Canvas course management system. We recommend a laptop or desktop computer to successfully complete the course, a tablet or phone may not be adequate for all assignments and tests.
