Computer Literacy


Course Description

This course introduces students to basic computer literacy concepts and provides the history of the computer, hardware, software, operating system mechanics, system management utilities, basics of networking, Internet and explore HTML web pages. The social impact and future of computers for communication systems are discussed along with an overview of basic security, privacy concerns and Artificial Intelligence. Students will also be introduced to an integrated software package for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, Internet and presentations.

CIS-004.-62Z: Fully ONLINE. This is an online lecture, laboratory class. The lecture and laboratory do not have scheduled meetings and can be completed independently each week on the student's own time. Students must have access to a computer, the internet and an individual email address. Most De Anza classes will use the Canvas course management system. We recommend a laptop or desktop computer to successfully complete the course; a tablet or phone may not be adequate for all assignments and tests.
