UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (TAP)

The UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) is a partnership between UCLA and select California community college honors programs. The alliance enhances students’ ability to transfer to UCLA’s College of Letters and Science (known as "The College" or "the UCLA College") at the junior level.

Students who successfully complete the De Anza College Honors Program can be certified for TAP eligibility by the Honors Program coordinator.

While TAP is not an admission guarantee, the admission rate for TAP students is significantly higher. However, of course, it’s important to note that UCLA is still highly selective.

TAP-certified applicants receive priority consideration for admission to the following majors at UCLA:

  • All majors within the UCLA College
  • Public Health
  • Public Affairs
  • Education and Social Transformation

Students interested in participating in TAP are encouraged to work closely with the Honors Program coordinator to ensure they’ve completed all program and transfer requirements. Please contact the Honors Program coordinator with any questions regarding eligibility, certification or Honors Program pathways.

Benefits of UCLA TAP

  • While not an admission guarantee, UCLA TAP offers students significantly higher rates of admittance to the UCLA College than their peers.
  • Students participating in TAP also have the unique opportunity to apply with an alternative major, which can double the chance of being admitted.

How to Qualify

Join the Honors Program

Find all the information about the program and how to join on the De Anza Honors Program page.

Complete the Honors Coursework

Complete 23 units of Honors coursework by the end of the spring quarter before transferring.

  • Students must complete at least 10 Honors units by the end of the fall quarter prior to transferring.

Finish Your Major Preparation

Finish the major preparation for your intended major/alternative major. For more information, please see UCLA’s major preparation information and confer with ASSIST.org for De Anza articulated courses:

Apply for UCLA Admission

Apply for standard UCLA admission by the deadline and apply for TAP by the end of January.

Complete the Honors Designation at De Anza

Complete the Honors Designation at De Anza through one of the following pathways (you must meet the 23-unit Honors requirement regardless of the pathway):

  • Classic Explorer
  • Global Citizen
  • Advanced Scholar
  • Note about the Bravura Scholar pathway: This pathway will not qualify a student for UCLA TAP, because it cannot meet the appropriate unit requirements.

Important Notes

  • Starting with the fall 2027 cohort, UCLA TAP will not accept one-year transfer students.  Students must have completed two years of community college after high school graduation to qualify.
  • There are some restrictions on which majors in the UCLA College can be alternative majors. Highly impacted majors can only be listed as a first choice, not an alternative. For a list of restricted alternative majors, please see the UCLA TAP website
